wines
The Belgrave Park Winery produces two separate ranges of wines
-
-
'The Hair of the Dog', quality
contemporary wines but priced for everyday enjoyment.
-
'The Peak Alone', our premium
reserve selection. Only wines classified by our winemaker, Warwick Adams, as 'something
special' are selected for this label.
The main varieties that we grow are Shiraz, Merlot and Viognier.
These are complemented each year by selected other varieties such as Sangiovese,
Verdelho and Marsanne. Our objective is always to have a high quality,
interesting range.

current season's wines (as at september 2009)
2007 sangiovese
(pronounced san-jo-vay-zee)
|
|
This vintage is intense and concentrated, with aromas of liquorice, savoury plum, black olive and herbs. It was aged in French oak barriques for 12 months, which give a robust mouthful of chocolatey oak and integrated tannins.
A wine to be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 5 years.
Very limited stock left.

2008 shiraz
|
|
This is a medium to full bodied wine that shows cool climate Shiraz characteristics of dark berries and plums, spice and earthiness with aromas of liquorice and rich, chocolatey oak. Tannins are balanced and well integrated.
Aged in French oak barriques, the rich fruit flavours provide a platform for the complexity that the oak has given.
Already the winner of a Silver medal, it is a wine to be enjoyed now or cellared for the next 3 - 5 years.

2008 chardonnay
|
|
This wine is multi-layered
with aromas of melon and passionfruit. The palate shows varietal characters of peach and stonefruit with some grapefruit crispness. Combined with subtle
walnuty oak characters it has produced a very satisfying wine.
We have limited cool storage space and this wine
has to go to make way for the new vintage. What a bargain at $10

2008 marsanne
roussanne (pronounced mar-sahn)
|
|
This wine is a classic co-fermentation of two
rare Rhône varieties, with the Marsanne (70%) providing richness and mouthfeel and the Roussanne (30%) giving freshness and lift. It has a delicate floral nose with fresh tropical, lychee and citrus flavours.
After 12 months in bottle now, this wine is developing a lovely
complexity. Enjoy now, or cellar for a few years and it will develop honeysuckle and toasty characters.
Down to the last few dozen bottles. Don't miss out
on this one.

2009 verdelho
|
|
This 2009 Verdelho has aromas of passionfruit and orange blossom. It has a rich and complex mouth feel, displaying tropical fruit and melon flavours balanced by refreshing citrus acidity.
A wine to enjoy now, rather than cellar.

2009 white
shiraz
|
|
This is a lighter rosé-style wine, made from Shiraz grapes selected and harvested specifically for this wine. It has red floral and spice aromas with a juicy strawberry note. The palate has lingering berry flavours and a light fruit sweetness, along with clean, structural tannins that add length and finesse.
Serve it well chilled, as a drink to linger over on the verandah, or as an accompaniment to summer meals.

2009 viognier
(pronounced vee-on-yay)
|
|
This 2009 Viognier has aromas of ripe apricots and peaches. After fermentation the wine was barrel-aged on lees with regular batonage to increase the flavour complexity. The trademark Viognier lusciousness is clearly evident on the palate.
This is our third vintage of Viognier and we are starting to really nail
the style now.
A wine to enjoy now or cellar for several years.
